Ammonia:
Ammonia is a combination of nitrogen and hydrogen.
Ammonia is a colorless compound liquid with a very pungent smell. It is actually an aqueous solution of ammonia, and due to the presence of hydrogen bonds, its boiling point and heat of vaporization are much higher than its pure form.
At ambient temperature and pressure, pure ammonia is in a gaseous state, and to liquefy it, either increase the pressure or decrease the temperature, or do both together.
Application of ammonia:
Industrial and non-industrial groups
Industrial application:
- It can reduce NOX emission in the reducing catalyst system
- This substance is used abundantly in the agricultural industry, and about 80% of its total use is related to the production of all kinds of agricultural chemical fertilizers.
- It is used in the production of nitric acid and ammonium nitrate.
- Used in paint industry
- Used as fuel or fuel derivatives
- Use as an oxidizing and reducing agent
- Ammonium bicarbonate (food ammonia) is also used in making biscuits.
Non-industrial use:
- As a refrigerant
- In air pollution control
- Used in explosives
- As an additive in the food industry
- In water treatment
